Everyone starting in a new role will be welcomed into the team and given all the training and support needed. As part of your comprehensive induction, you will be provided with all the equipment required for your role.
We are recruiting two positions, one permanent and one temporary (ending February 2027). Both roles will be working in the Hazardous Waste Data and Investigations team, supporting and leading projects and investigations into waste streams, providing data analysis to internal partners and performing basic quality assurance of our data. The permanent role will also work closely with our Communications and Engagement lead to support delivery of internal and external communications
You will:
• Use multiple data sources to deliver national Hazardous Waste projects and campaigns.
• Present campaign and project findings to the Hazardous Waste Leadership Team.
• Use national datasets to identify areas of risk relating to Waste Classification and Hazardous Waste Compliance
• Support communication and engagement work with internal and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to the quality assurance process for the Hazardous Waste dataset
• Create clear reports based on large datasets, adding value to raw data to support regulation and enforcement.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be asked to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment, and full training will be available to support you with your incident role.
This role would suit someone with a regulatory background, however all the skills required are transferable and therefore we welcome applications from any career background.

This post is within Waste Industry Regulatory Services (WIRS), part of National Operations. Our team is an established, high-performing, and innovative team. We provide hazardous waste data to support other National and Area teams, to deliver data-led national campaigns and use large datasets to identify and tackle areas of non-compliance in industry. The team consists of a mix of Senior Technical Officers and Regulatory Officers.
Experience/skills required
We are looking for someone that can demonstrate key transferable skills and a willingness to learn as on-the-job training and support will be provided.
You’ll need to:
• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Collaborate to achieve outcomes to improve hazardous waste compliance.
• Plan, manage and deliver tasks/ projects to deadlines.
• Make decisions and solve problems.
• Have strong attention to detail.
• Be well organised, and able to deliver work independently, parallel to others.
• Be able to learn new IT systems quickly and apply new skills.
Knowledge of waste regulation, Microsoft Excel, and PowerBI, is desirable but not essential, as applicants will be given the training and support needed to succeed.
