‘Slater Street’ The Bowls Club is a lively, 9-rink indoor bowls club in the heart of Leicester that’s challenging the old-school status quo. Our mission? To deliver “The Best Bowls Club” experience in a friendly, dynamic, inclusive, diverse and modern Sports and Social Club.
ABOUT US
We’re more than just a sports club. Alongside our 9 indoor rinks, we host a thriving Clubhouse Lounge that includes:
• A Kitchen & Coffee Shop
• A social Boardgame Cafe
• A well-stocked Bar
• A specialist Bowls Shop
Launching in 2025 is The Boardroom – our new competitive socialising and events space featuring Darts, Ping Pong, and Table Football, designed to attract corporate team building, social occasions, and new audiences to the world of bowls.
This next chapter for The Bowls Club focuses on growth and transformation – supporting bowls while unlocking revenue through underutilised spaces like the Lounge and Boardroom with weddings, celebrations, comedy nights, quizzes, upbeat bingo, and more.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We need an energetic, people-driven Assistant Manager to help take our club to new heights.
You’ll be:
• Supporting the General Manager in day-to-day operations across all areas of the club
• Taking ownership of customer service, events coordination, and hospitality standards
• Driving sales and visibility of our events spaces, building a sustainable and successful business model
• Helping create and uphold operational procedures and service standards that set a benchmark for the next generation of bowls clubs
• Engaging with members and the wider community to grow the club’s appeal beyond traditional audiences
• Supporting the team in a hands-on capacity — from pulling pints to setting up events and everything in between
WE’RE AFTER SOMEONE WHO IS:
• Warm, approachable, and a natural people person — someone who builds rapport with members and customers alike through kindness, positivity, and professionalism
• Committed to delivering high standards of customer service across all touchpoints
• Experienced in hospitality, with proven time spent in bar and coffee shop type settings
• Confident with basic kitchen skills, and ideally holds a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or is willing to obtain)
• Organised, commercial, and capable of creating and maintaining operational procedures that ensure consistently excellent service
• Motivated by growth, innovation, and quality, not afraid to challenge the norms of traditional bowls culture
• A genuine team player who thrives in a small, close-knit team environment with a family-style culture of colleagues, directors, and members
• Brings a competitive mindset – whether from participating in or following sports – and is excited by the idea of modernising a sporting venue
• While experience in bowls is not essential, a willingness to embrace the game and its operations fully is
