Summary

Are you a skilled Painter with a solid background in surface preparation and coating application techniques?
Morson Talent is currently recruiting for experienced Painters to support ongoing projects at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth - one of the UK's most historic naval dockyards.

This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to major defence and marine operations, working within a highly skilled team in a challenging and rewarding environment.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Prepare bare substrates and existing coatings to required specifications using systematic approaches.
    • Apply coatings by brush, roller, conventional spray, and airless spray in line with marine standards.
    • Interpret and follow paint manufacturer's technical and safety data sheets.
    • Support and guide team members on application techniques and best practices.
    • Ensure high-quality standards in all aspects of surface preparation and coating.
    • Maintain clean working areas and ensure all equipment is properly protected.
    • Apply Damage Control markings and raised tally signwriting where required.
    • Read and interpret MOD BRs relevant to painting procedures.


    Required Experience & Skills:

      • Strong knowledge of surface preparation standards and coating application techniques.
      • Minimum 2 years' experience in a marine, industrial, or commercial painting environment.
      • Experience working on submarines and warships is highly desirable.
      • Proficient in Health & Safety and COSHH regulations.
      • Competent with airless spraying (essential) sign writing experience desirable.
      • Willingness to work shifts and overtime based on project needs.
      • Good understanding of technical documentation and safety data.


      Qualifications & Training:
      Essential:

        • NVQ Level 3 in Industrial/Marine Painting & Decorating or equivalent
        • ICATS certification


        Desirable:

          • NVQ Level 2 with intent to pursue Level 3
          • Additional training or qualifications related to marine coatings or HSE


          Pay Rates
          Level 2
          PAYE - £17.09 per hour Umbrella - £21.64 per hour (Pre 12 weeks) & £22.12 per hour (Post 12 weeks) + Radius Allowance.

          Level 3
          PAYE - £19.45 per hour Umbrella - £24.69 per hour (Pre 12 weeks) & £25.24 per hour (Post 12 weeks) + Radius Allowance.

          Work Arrangements
          35 standard hours a week, 07:30 - 15:30 Monday to Thursday, 07:30 - 12:30 on a Friday, shift and overtime a possibility but not guaranteed.

          12 month initial contract

          The successful candidate will need to achieve BS security clearance in order to fulfil this role.
