West Lothian Council are seeking a motivated and dynamic assistant house manager to work across their two residential houses. You will be part of a management group which includes another assistant houses manager, manager and group manager. You will provide day to day supervision and support to residential care officers and locum staff to enable the care they are providing to be built on stable, nurturing and loving relationships. West Lothian Council are committed to keeping the promise and you will have an important role in developing relationship based care.


You will work closely with our young people to ensure that their voices are heard and they are enabled to share their views and have their rights maintained. One of our principles is in working together with young people, their families and the other support mechanisms that are around them. You will have at least 2 years experience of working in a residential childcare setting or other children and families setting and have the ability to work with young people in crisis in a trauma informed way. As you will be expected to support the houses in the absence of the houses manager at times, it would be desirable that you have previous experience of managing staff in a regulated setting and working alongside the care inspectorate. It will be necessary for you to have knowledge of working in a child protection context to be able to support staff members and young people. The houses operate 365 days per year 24 hours a day and you will be expected to provide management cover across the rota at times. There will be a shift allowance paid.


This position requires registration with the SSSC. The successful candidate will have six months from the date of commencement of this post to become registered with the SSSC. SSSC stipulate you must submit your application within three months of your start date. If you are already registered with SSSC you will be required to add West Lothian Council to your account


This post is considered Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scotland Act 2007. From 28 February 2011 preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council
