We are very pleased to be offering a new and exciting opportunity for an experienced, Qualified Pharmacy Technician to work within the Ophthalmology service.
You will work with the newly appointed Senior Specialist Pharmacist for Ophthalmology as well as supporting the Medicines Management service to improve medicines optimisation for patients in hospital and the local area, supporting adherence and counselling on eye drops and other medication related to the service. You will ensure current medication is prescribed and reviewed whilst supporting cost savings and liaising with supply services to ensure continuity of specialist products.
You will also be required to support the pharmacy trainees and staff in understanding and optimising the use of eye drops and eye preparations so they can offer suitable advice and referrals to help patients manage their conditions.

Job Summary
1. Provide specialist clinical pharmacy technician advice to the Ophthalmology service at UHS
General Duties
1. Providing medicines management service to the eye short stay unit.
2. Proactively support stock management within departments in the eye unit, communicating with staff regarding difficulties in supplying medicines and, if appropriate offering alternatives solutions to ensure appropriate patient care is always maintained.
3. To review patients who are admitted to UHS or in a clinic setting to ensure patients know how to
manage their condition(s)/ disease and medicines. Undertaking shared decision-making
discussions and adherence assessments and providing advice where needed to patient or MDT
4. Responsible for supporting service improvement, conducting audits, evaluation, and
development. Actively identifies areas of service improvement. Proactivity contributes to service

• You need to be a registered Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC
• Have an accreditation in: Medicines Management or Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT)
• Have an accreditation in or evidence of training in: Patient counselling
• This is a full-time post 37.5hrs per week
• There is a weekend working commitment of 1 in 6 to support patient care, either working at ward level or in the dispensary.
• There is a late night working commitment one day per week on alternate weeks
