Summary

The post holder will lead and shape the Council's Health and Safety strategy as a trusted expert, driving continuous improvement and a strong safety culture across a proactive and motivated team.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a proactive and motivated team at the heart of the Council’s efforts to ensure the highest standards of Health & Safety across all services, schools, council-owned companies, and partner organisations. As the Council’s lead expert in Health & Safety, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering a forward-thinking, risk-based compliance strategy that drives continuous improvement and supports a strong, positive safety culture.
You will lead the development and implementation of policies, training, and compliance frameworks, while providing expert advice on legislation, risk management, and best practices. The role involves overseeing statutory compliance, analysing performance data, and leading investigations and service reviews to identify and implement improvements. You will also assess strategic and financial risks, ensuring that senior leaders are well-informed and that the Council’s interests are protected.
Collaboration is key, and you will work closely with internal teams and external partners to promote best practices, support compliance, and respond to emerging risks. You will report to senior leadership and governance bodies, lead self-assessments, maintain accreditations, and build partnerships with other local authorities to share knowledge and tackle shared challenges. As a team leader within the Compliance & Assurance Service, you will help shape an innovative and effective service that champions excellence in Health & Safety.
We are looking for a positive and confident self-starter to join our team.
