KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Clinical and technical knowledge acquired through City & Guilds, HNC or 1st Degree in Dental technology, Ability to prioritise own work load Ability to provide and receive complex information regarding the design and construction of appliances to and from the multidisciplinary team. Have good analytical skills, and be able to manage time effectively. Have good word processing skills and be able to create and accurately maintain an MS Excel database. PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Provide a technical service to the Orthodontic and Restorative clinics for the design and construction of a broad range of dental and Intra-oral appliances. Duties to include construction of working models (gypsum and 3d printed), orthodontic study models, special trays, record blocks, sleep apnoea appliances, vacuum formed appliances, prosthetic and orthodontic appliances. To play an active role in the digital pathway of technical work and participate in the development of this service To maintain accurate laboratory activity records. To assist in the control and maintenance of stock levels for laboratory materials and to maintain to a high level the operational standards of laboratory equipment and furnishings. To attend departmental and Inter-departmental meetings as required. To maintain 100% Mandatory Training compliance. To complete mandatory CPDs required for continued professional registration (GDC). Professional Registration Where the post holder holds a professional qualification they will be required to: Maintain their own professional status and registration where appropriate Work within the professional regulations set by the relevant Professional Body Health and Safety/Risk Management The jobholder must comply at all times with Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Health and Safety policies, in particular by following agreed safe local working procedures and reporting incidents using the Trusts Risk Incident Reporting System. Respect for Patient Confidentiality The jobholder should respect patient confidentiality at all times and not divulge patient information unless sanctioned by the requirements of the role. All clinical staff must ensure rigorous and consistent compliance with standard infection control precautions including Hand hygiene, dress code and use of personal protective equipment and other clinical care policies and protocols applicable to infection prevention and control. Employees are required to challenge poor performance or poor practice in relation to infection prevention and report any breaches using relevant Trust procedures such as the Incident reporting system. Safeguarding Children and Adults All employees have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults including but not limited to patients, members of the public and colleagues. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring they undertake the appropriate level of training in accordance with our safeguarding policy training strategy and that they are aware of and work within the safeguarding policies of the Trust which are available on the Trust intranet pages COMMUNICATION & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Laboratory staff members Provides and receives complex information to and from Restorative/Orthodontic Consultants, SPRs, SHOs and Therapists in regard to the treatment of patients referred from their clinics. Dental Nurses when requesting work and prepping clinics Estates personnel when maintenance requests have been raised Answering laboratory telephones and speaking to patients or other staff members SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS Spends long periods, daily, concentrating on producing appliances and prostheses with high levels of precision. Is required to sit at the laboratory bench and stand at the casting bench for prolonged periods. Endures occasional unpleasant conditions due to exposure to fumes, dust particles, and equipment noise/vibration. Occasional heavy lifting required. The Laboratory operates a 5 day working week Monday to Friday and the applicant will be required to work 37.5 hours per week over 5 days. ***Informal visits to the laboratories are encouraged and can be arranged with the Laboratory Manager.
