Summary
Work as part of theatre team to assist or circulate for surgical procedures. Work competently in a variety of specialities for Paediatric and adult patients. To practice in accordance with the NMC / HCPC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust policies and procedures. Work within the Operating Theatre and Out of Department areas undertaking competencies as required. To be an effective team member. Promote interdisciplinary working, with outcomes aimed at the best interests of patients and cohesive service delivery. Train more junior staff and take part in the induction and orientation of new staff following appropriate training. Participate in clinical supervision/appraisals/audits. Take every opportunity to sustain and improve own knowledge and professional competence, reporting to senior staff any deficits that impinge on practice in a timely fashion whilst meeting the needs of the service. Implement and evaluate care plans as appropriate to surgical requirement and patients condition. Monitor and assess patients condition, responding to changes in condition, proposing / making changes to care plan as required. To be aware of the management of drugs and to adhere to local policies and administer drugs as prescribed. Handover and transferring responsibility of care to colleagues, ensuring appropriate information and care is relayed. Direct and participates in the maneuvering and the positioning of both conscious and unconscious patients. Act as a clinical and professional role model at all times and demonstrate specialist knowledge and high standards of clinical practice and provide support or advice when necessary. Ensure all equipment has been regularly maintained Ensure all equipment is used in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. Ensure any equipment found to be faulty/unsafe should be removed from use and reported to the appropriate department.
