Are you a dedicated and compassionate individual looking for a rewarding opportunity to support young people with diverse learning needs? A specialist independent day school in Effingham, Surrey, is seeking an enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join its committed team.

This welcoming school provides a nurturing and stimulating environment for students aged 11-16 who have a range of special educational needs, including autism spectrum conditions, associated behavioural challenges, and moderate to specific learning difficulties. The school is dedicated to providing a highly personalised and supportive learning journey for each student, helping them to manage emotional regulation, build confidence, and develop independence.

About the Role:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students' learning and well-being. Working closely with experienced teachers and a multi-disciplinary team, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing tailored support to individual students or small groups, understanding their specific needs and learning styles.
  • Assisting in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and contributing to pupils' progress reviews.
  • Supporting students to engage in learning activities and manage their concentration and behaviour effectively.
  • Fostering a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
  • Promoting students' social and emotional development, encouraging independence and positive peer relationships.
  • Assisting with the preparation of learning resources and maintaining a stimulating learning environment.
  • Potentially supporting students with personal care, where required.

About You:

We are looking for an individual who:

  • Has experience (in a paid or voluntary capacity) working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly those with autism, ADHD, or SEMH challenges (desirable but not essential for those with a strong aptitude and passion).
  • Possesses a calm, patient, and empathetic approach with a genuine desire to make a positive impact.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Is flexible, proactive, and able to work effectively as part of a dedicated team.
  • Shows a willingness to learn and undertake professional development.
  • Ideally holds relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning), though this is not essential if you have relevant experience and the right attitude.
  • Has a minimum of GCSE Grade 4 (or equivalent) in Maths and English Language.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection procedures.
