Does earning a full-time salary while working just half the year sound too good to be true? It’s not. A rare and rewarding opportunity has opened up at a long-established and highly respected equine veterinary practice in a popular market town in Cambridgeshire.

I am looking for an Equine Veterinary Surgeon to take on approximately 50% of the first call out-of-hours work, on a week-on/week-off basis. You'll share the rota with a dedicated OOH colleague and always have the support of a second vet on call. This setup allows you to enjoy true work-life balance while still being an integral part of a friendly, experienced and supportive team.

The practice serves a diverse equine population—from elite competition horses to much-loved ponies—and takes pride in delivering exceptional care at all hours. Although the role is primarily out of hours, you’ll be fully integrated into the team, benefitting from clinical support, collaboration, and the opportunity to pursue your professional interests. Certificate holders and those studying for additional qualifications are well supported.

You will work mostly ambulatory, but have access to superb clinic facilities including stabling, a knock-down box and surgical suite, stocks, DR, ultrasound, videoscopes and more. The practice is also ahead of the curve with admin—thanks to a tech-savvy Practice Manager, much of the rota planning, bookings, and reporting are handled via bespoke phone apps and remote systems, making your job smoother and more efficient.

There may also be the chance to boost your earnings by providing additional day cover if that suits your lifestyle. Funded CPD and career development are actively encouraged, and while experience is valued, team fit and a passion for equine care matter most.

Located in a charming riverside town steeped in history, with a vibrant High Street and excellent transport links (just 55 minutes from London by train and 25 minutes to Cambridge), this is a great place to live and work—or simply enjoy your well-earned time off.

If you're an equine vet looking for a unique role that offers genuine balance, professional growth and the chance to be part of a dedicated team, get in touch—I’d love to have a chat.

The Package:

• Salary ranging from £45,000-£50,000 dependent on experience
