Summary

About the Role

Are you passionate about helping children and families overcome barriers to education? Do you want to make a real difference in your community? Rochdale Borough Council’s Education Welfare Service is looking for an experienced and dedicated Education Welfare Officer to join us.

In this role, you’ll work closely with schools, partner agencies, children, and families to support engagement and school attendance. Your focus will be on supporting the statutory functions in line with the Department for Education ‘Working Together to Improve School Attendance’ and building strong, positive relationships to support children in accessing education.

18½ hours temporary contract 12 months contract


What you’ll be doing:

- Supporting the statutory functions of ‘Working Together to Improve School Attendance’

- Championing Inclusive Attendance approaches and our ambition to ensure that we are collectively ‘Raising Rochdale’

- Managing your own caseload of children and families.

- Providing direct support to allocated schools as per a neighbourhood model,

- Ensure key functions of the role are delivered in your neighbourhood, such as parent support groups and attendance groups for schools.

- Creating individual attendance support plans and, only when needed, taking formal or legal action.

- Supporting children and families that elect to educate at home (EHE)

- Supporting other functions of the team, such as the Children Missing Education Team, the Fair Access - Team, the Virtual School and the SEN Team.

- Working alongside a passionate team committed to safeguarding and inclusion.

- Collaborating across the council and with external partners to create a network of support.

About you

What we’re looking for:

- Experience working with children, families, schools, and multi-agency teams.

- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage case work, excellent record keeping and report writing.

- Good knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, and legislation.

- A positive and can-do attitude and a relationship-focused approach.
