Summary

Lead Practice Nurse Full-Time Position Knebworth and Marymead Medical Practice Contract Type Permanent Hours Full-time (37.5 hours per week) Reporting To GP Partners (Clinical) / Practice Manager (Operational) Base Knebworth and/or Marymead Surgery 1. Job Summary To lead and manage the nursing team, consisting of practice nurses and HCAs, ensuring high-quality patient care delivery. This role combines clinical responsibilities across the breadth of general practice nursing with team leadership, service development and quality improvement. The lead nurse will support the clinical team in delivering services aligned with QOF, local enhanced services, infection prevention and control standards, and other strategic objectives of the practice. 2. Clinical Responsibilities Develop and implement care plans for chronic diseases including asthma, diabetes, and COPD. Lead on infection prevention and control across the practice. Undertake cervical screening and support well woman services. Provide contraception services including pill checks and depot injections. Deliver wound care, including suture and staple removal. Offer travel health advice and administer travel vaccinations. Conduct NHS Health Checks, immunisations, and health promotion interventions. Support the implementation and monitoring of QOF, IIF and local incentive schemes. Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in accordance with practice policies. Chaperone patients and assist with minor procedures when required. 3. Team Leadership and Management Line manage the nursing team, including rotas, appraisals, supervision and development. Coordinate and monitor the delivery of chronic disease clinics. Oversee clinical audits, significant event reviews and quality improvement projects. Provide mentorship and clinical leadership for the nursing and HCA team. Ensure clinical protocols are up-to-date and used appropriately by the team. Lead implementation of new services and quality improvement initiatives. Liaise with the wider practice team to ensure effective communication and service delivery. 4. Professional Development and Governance Maintain NMC registration and support team members in their revalidation. Engage in personal CPD and support training and education of others. Participate in clinical governance processes and compliance with CQC standards. Ensure the nursing team operates within the scope of professional practice and legal frameworks.
