Summary

The Prescription Clerk is the main point of contact for patient enquiries about their prescriptions and as such will work collaboratively with colleagues to: deliver high standards of customer service, including accuracy and timeliness manage patient expectations understand and be sensitive to the confidential nature of the work demonstrate clear and professional communication Key Responsibilities Process medication requests received from patients and pharmacies within agreed timescales, expediting urgent requests where appropriate Liaise with patients and pharmacies to ensure that queries and requests are highlighted to the relevant clinician Ensure that requests for repeat medications are issued in line with SPC protocol Undertake regular audits to highlight repeat medications not requested for more than 6 months and seek clarification from the relevant GP/Medicines Management Lead as to whether this can be removed Alert the relevant GP/Medicines Management Lead regarding examples of over-ordering and/or over-usage of medications Check if any checks, i.e. pill, blood, blood pressure are due before issuing medications/re-authorisation Update patient records with new repeat and/or acute medications as indicated on hospital letters, ensuring these are authorised by the relevant GP/Medicines Management Lead before issuing this is a delegated responsibility and may not apply to all post-holders Provide information for the month end claim process as appropriate Comply with legal and professional requirements, accepted guidance on professional practice, and with safe systems of work for re-authorising repeat prescriptions and to co-ordinate medication reviews or changes. Liaise with pharmacies regarding the supply of prescribed drugs, alert clinicians of any supply issues and forward information on the recommended alternatives Maintain paper requests in bundles by date for one month, in the event of any queries Ensure adequate supply of FP10 prescription pads, maintain log of forms issued and ensure secure storage Keep up to date with the relevant formulary and the National restricted drugs list. Undertake training as requested to support safe and effective service Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the partners or the Practice Operations Manager. Currently looking for 22.5 hrs each week. Monday to Friday 9am until 2pm
