Summary

The ISS Team requires three Engineering Managers:

As a C2/Higher Executive Officer (HEO) you will take responsibility to deliver engineering and engineering project outputs as assigned by your C1/Senior Executive Officer (SEO); following an initial probationary period and assessment as a practitioner, you will be empowered to make collaborative evidence-based engineering judgements balanced against the wider context of personnel and system safety, programme risk and operational requirement.

Hybrid and flexible working can be considered for these posts but will need regular workplace attendance due to security constraints. Candidates are encouraged to discuss options with the recruiting line manager before applying.

Many technical disciplines are represented in the ISS Team, so it is likely that your background is relevant, either from an electrical or mechanical engineering background, with an underpinning knowledge of systems engineering including configuration management. Previous Defence Nuclear Domain knowledge is not necessary, but we are looking for engineers with experience of delivery who are comfortable working as part of a multi-disciplined integrated team.

Responsibilities

Successful candidates will, depending on the role, undertake the following activities:

Assist in the delivery of the Design Authority function for UK unique In-Service Support (ISS) equipment’s, ranging from, special to role trailers to safely and securely transport warheads, to bespoke test & measurement equipment supporting warhead processing, and specialist Computed Tomography (CT) systems used to examine warhead ordnance.

Make evidence based engineering judgements to resolve emergent issues and determine corrective maintenance options, balanced against the wider context of personnel and system safety, operational and programme requirement.

Undertake warhead processing engineering issue resolution and support ability analysis, using the Electronic Unsatisfactory Report System (EURS) management tool.

Technical authorship of UK unique support equipment operating and maintenance documentation and the upkeep of US/UK warhead processing procedures.

Set the requirement for Design Change of UK unique support it’s change supporting evidence documentation to the Nuclear Weapons Modification Committee (Trident) and subsequent Nuclear Weapon Approving Authority approval.

Contribute to the Finance, Commercial and Project enabling functions, by setting the engineering requirement, and the measurement of the requirement through Verification & Validation activities, to ensure compliance with UK Legislation, Defence Safety Regulation, and Engineering Standards.

These posts are advertised at 37 hours per week and will be based at MOD Abby Wood (South) Bristol.

This post is on the MOD Civilian Nuclear Post Control List (PCL) and may attract the Nuclear Recruitment and Retention Allowance (RRA). This is a discretionary allowance. The post being listed on the PCL does not mean that the post holder will have an automatic entitlement to receive the RRA. The NSQEP RRA is not a contractual allowance and can be amended or withdrawn without notice in line with MOD Main and Submarine Delivery Agency policy.
