Job Description
As the Deputy Manager, you will collaborate closely with the Home Manager to oversee the daily operations of the care home, ensuring that residents receive the best possible care and support. You will also assist in managing the care and activities team, maintaining regulatory compliance, and creating a safe, nurturing, and welcoming environment for residents.
Your will also be required to take overall responsibility for managing the Home in the absence of the Registered Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Home Manager with the overall management of all team within the Home ensuring the smooth operation of the Home on a day-to-day basis.
Demonstrate both clinical/care and managerial leadership to a team of team leaders, carers and ancillary team as appropriate allowing an opportunity for all team to communicate openly and positively.
Ensure that all of the Care Quality Commission’s requirements of written record keeping are strictly adhered to.
Assist in planning monthly rotas and making amendments as required in order to eliminate the use of agency team.
Lead the team, ensuring that the highest standards of resident care are achieved.
Ensure that team supervision and appraisals are carried out in line with company policy.
Effective communication with all parties including team, colleagues, residents, families, social workers and other external agencies.
Arrange and chair regular team meetings and promote good communication between team and management in line with company policy.
Ensure that all team receive an appropriate induction and probation review during their first 3 months of employment.
Ensure that all team have a programme of on-going education, training and development
and that all mandatory training required to perform roles is completed and subject to regular updates in line with company policy.
Carry out team training and supervision in line with company policy.
Ensure the home is offering individualised care to all residents.
Carry out pre-admission assessments in conjunction with the Home Manager.
Provide information to the Home’s administration and Head Office team on all matters relating to resident admissions, moves, deaths and fees together with purchases and equipment requirements.
Be familiar with the Health & Social Care Act Regulations 2008, accompanying regulations and to fulfil the obligations of them.
To assist residents with those activities which they would usually perform or have in the past performed themselves but cannot now without assistance. The optimum level of independence should be encouraged and supported whilst maintaining dignity and self-esteem of the residents.
The Deputy Manager will need to ensure they maintain a good working relationship with all external bodies, including any representative of the CQC, local GP's, local Authority Care Managers, local Discharge Teams, current & prospective residents, relatives / Representatives of current / prospective residents and members of the local community, who should be encouraged to support the Home and become involved in events.
Keep the Home Manager informed of; any issues / potential issues of communication with residents and families, any issues / potential issues with members of the multidisciplinary team in the home and other providers of care and services to the home, pre-empt team issues, any changes in residents’ health, well-being or social needs, any potential Safeguarding issues, any concerns with regard to the environment in the home or any team/resident incidents or accidents in the home.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Proven management experience at a similar level.
Established leadership skills to manage large teams.
Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations and best practices.
Excellent communication skills.
Empathy, patience, and a commitment to providing person-centred care.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Ability to multi-task and prioritise.
Strong commercial awareness – care industry preferred but not required.
In depth knowledge and understanding of Dementia
Discretion and confidentiality.
Highly proficient at Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word and Excel).
