Summary

About the Role

Whether you’re talking about length, mass, time, temperature, electric current, amount or the brightness of light, the National Physical Laboratory sets the standards by which these things are all measured. As we continue to explore the ways in which our work can be used around the world, we have to become even more strategic in our approach. At NPL, we touch ordinary lives in extraordinary ways, what if you could too?

This is a fixed term contract for 9 to 12 months.

What you'll be doing:

As our Financial Strategy and Planning Manager, you’ll help develop our finance strategy so that it supports our broader business objectives. Working closely with the Head of Finance Strategy, you’ll assume a senior role in the finance strategy team. Designing, producing and delivering a series of complex financial models – including taking on our five-year plan, providing support to the business on bids for new projects – your reports will support and shape the business-critical decisions that will define us.

Forging relationships across the business will be essential to your success, as will your ability to champion what you’re doing to drive through change. You’ll also line manage and develop the finance intern, ensuring they reach their full potential.

About You

• What you can bring to the role:
o Qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA) with post qualification experience
o A background in Business Partnering, or commercial finance
o Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, ability to create macros and build complex financial models
o Experience of providing financial strategic support within a similar-scale organisation
o A confident presenter with excellent communication skills
o Ability to influence

Beyond that, we’re looking for someone who’ll thrive in an environment like ours. At NPL, we learn from each other, respect each other and work together to do better. For ourselves and for our customers. And whilst we’re always looking to stretch beyond what we know, we don’t make things more complicated when there’s no need.

We actively recruit citizens of all backgrounds, but the nature of our work in specific departments means that nationality, residency and security requirements can be more tightly defined than others. You will be asked about this throughout the recruitment process. To work at NPL, you will need to obtain BPSS security clearance.

Please note: Applications will be reviewed, and interviews conducted throughout the duration of this advert therefore we may at any time bring the closing date forward. We encourage all interested applicants to apply as soon as practical.
