We are looking for a palliative care assistant to support a 53-year-old gentleman, in the Blyth area. The gentleman lives with his wife and 11-year-old daughter. He also has three grown up children. He has a diagnosis of Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) a rare inherited disorder affecting the brain, causing a progressive loss of physical and mental skills. As a result of his diagnosis, he has young on set dementia impacting on all aspects of his daily life, and epilepsy.
There are a team of palliative carers in place already and we are looking for a suitable applicant to join the team.
The ideal applicant will:
- Be willing to support with all daily living tasks including personal care, toileting and feeding support.
- Be experienced supporting individuals both mentally and physically. Informal experience is considered.
- Be able to build a relationship with the client, through encouragement, engagement and communication.
- Work alongside the gentleman’s family and team of care workers to meet his needs.
- He is 2:1 support and you must be physical able to manage the demands of the role.
******Shifts can be split and worked between multiple carers******
- Holiday and Sickness cover – ad hoc as required
- Holiday pay is accrued at 5.6 weeks pro rata per year
All training as appropriate will be provided via on-the-job, online and face-to-face training. The successful applicant will have access to the local authority learning together portals for all appropriate training.
