Summary
Booker Wholesale supports a combination of Retail and Catering customers that shop in or are delivered to by our 189 Branches nationwide. We’re looking to transform the way we measure and manage productivity within our branches, in order to ‘save to invest’. An exciting 12 month opportunity has become available supporting productivity related projects for the operations team.
As project support you will need to liaise across Booker business functions and respond to new initiatives and support a change culture within our branches.
You’ll work on driving and guiding measurement of branch activities, supporting the development of a new branch payroll model. Identifying ‘base productivity calculations’. Identifying core processes that need to be measured, initially by ourselves internally, and then by external industrial engineers, through time & motion study.
Location: Time will be spent across our branch estate, visiting relevant locations that require first hand observation and investigation. Time will also be spent at our support centres, including Wellingborough to support effective end to end collaboration with the operations team.
This role presents an opportunity to work across Booker functions, shaping and developing time and motion studies in our branches. There will be multiple areas to review and a shifting focus, as one piece of work is completed, and another starts.
• The role is ideal if you are analytically lead and comfortable investigating and proactively challenging operational working processes.
• Using technical knowledge to identify variances in common and local working routines that make a big difference to efficiency and productivity.
• Bringing external market knowledge and insight and share with leadership teams, using this insight to further support the development of a new and improved payroll model.
• As an ambassador for the operations productivity team, it’s essential that both empathy and clear and concise communication skills are of the highest degree.
• Planning and overseeing project milestones, coordinating sources and processes to deliver results on time, with the desired outcomes.
• Leading, reporting, and mitigating risks and issues and following governance processes.
• Driving delivery and regularly updating collaborators and leaders on progress and results.
• Project management experience, ideally in wholesale, retail, logistics, distribution, ecommerce, or similar environment e.g., manufacturing or engineering.
• The ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
• Excellent time management and prioritisation skills are vital to navigate changing environments whilst keeping focus on project aims.
• Strong communication and storytelling skills (written and verbal), with the ability to challenge and influence others to achieve the project outcomes.
• Self-motivated with a clear sense of ownership and an ability to follow through steadfastly to resolve issues.
• Experience of task measurement process and workplace observational studies
• To communicate accurate and concise summaries of ‘real time’, ‘on the floor’ observations, to ensure New Model development is as accurate and as relevant as possible.
• To offer support and empathy while investigating inconsistencies in branch payroll spend, to identify key drivers that can be associated with productivity calculations.
• To drive productivity by identifying inefficiencies and working with relevant stakeholders to develop strategies to make required improvements.
• Some knowledge of AutoCAD would be beneficial, but not essential.
• Applicants must have a valid full UK driving licence, have access to a vehicle, and have willingness to travel to Booker branches around the UK.
