The Opportunity

Long Term Futures is collaborating with a nurturing and inclusive primary school in Hammersmith and Fulham to appoint a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for a Year 1 pupil. This full-time role, commencing in September 2025, involves working closely with a child who is pre-verbal and displays defiant behaviour.

The school is committed to providing a supportive environment for all pupils, with a strong emphasis on inclusivity and tailored support strategies. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in implementing behaviour management plans, facilitating communication strategies, and ensuring the safety and engagement of the pupil throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one support to a Year 1 pupil with ASD and behavioural challenges
- Implement and monitor behaviour management strategies
- Utilise visual aids and alternative communication methods to support a pre-verbal child
- Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to develop and adapt Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
- Liaise with parents and external professionals to ensure consistent support strategies

What We're Looking For
- Experience working with children with ASD and behavioural needs
- Strong understanding of behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
- Familiarity with alternative communication methods (e.g. , PECS, Makaton)
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent in challenging situations
- A proactive approach to supporting learning and promoting positive behaviour
- Relevant qualifications or training in SEN support are desirable
