Summary
Job Purpose:
The Decontamination Nurse plays a vital role in maintaining high standards of infection prevention and control within the dental practice. They are responsible for the effective cleaning, sterilisation, and maintenance of dental instruments and equipment, ensuring compliance with HTM 01-05 and all relevant regulations and guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure all reusable dental instruments are cleaned, sterilised, and stored in accordance with HTM 01-05 and practice protocols.
Operate and maintain decontamination equipment (e.g., ultrasonic baths, washer disinfectors, autoclaves) safely and efficiently.
Conduct routine checks and validation of decontamination equipment; report any faults promptly.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of sterilisation cycles and equipment maintenance logs.
Ensure the decontamination room is clean, organised, and fully stocked with necessary materials.
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of the practice’s infection control policies and procedures.
Safely handle and dispose of clinical waste and sharps.
Work closely with the clinical team to support smooth workflow and instrument turnaround.
Participate in infection control audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Keep up to date with relevant training and continuing professional development (CPD) in decontamination and infection control.
