Summary

The Department for Business and Trade supports businesses to invest, grow and export, creating jobs and opportunities across the country. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a stretching portfolio in the Delivery Unit, at the centre of the department in the Strategy & Private Office Directorate.

You will lead a team to drive forward the Secretary of State’s priorities, ensuring join up across the department and with other government departments, horizon scanning and strategic planning, and supporting the Permanent Secretary and Ministers in their engagement with the centre and our strategic partners.

The role will include working with the Secretary of State and Permanent Secretary Private Offices to ensure the department is delivering against their top priorities.

In addition to driving this fast paced and engaging portfolio, you will be responsible for maintaining a strong, dynamic and supportive team culture.

Typical responsibilities will include:

  • Leading a high-performing team in DBT’s Delivery Unit – with either line management or matrix management responsibilities.
  • Driving forward the Secretary of State’s and Permanent Secretary’s priorities, including supporting Ministers and the Permanent Secretary in their engagement across Government.
  • Developing and embedding strategic join-up between DBT and other government departments.
  • Tracking delivery and providing central coordination for cross-Government boards.
  • Taking an active role in the wider management of the Delivery Unit team.

While we are currently advertising one role, we would hope to build a strong reserve list for any future vacancies in the team.
