Summary
KEY DUTIES To create a child friendly environment by maintaining regular risk assessments, ensuring equipment and toys are clean and in safe working order, panic buttons checked regularly, emergency equipment checked daily, and Department decorated to a child friendly standard. To have an understanding of the different emotions and needs of the children attending the department, demonstrating good communication skills and a friendly manner. Utilising IT skills ensure patient electronic records are available for consultation and contain relevant information prior to the commencement of the clinic. Assist the clinician in joint clinics with any patient procedures and chaperone patients when required ensuring patient privacy and dignity is maintained. Give information and advice when appropriate to patients both verbally and written and ensure patients understanding of information and direct patients to other departments when necessary. Carry out appropriate patient care after appropriate training. At the conclusion of clinics ensure consulting rooms are cleaned and tidied and ensure all necessary documentation is directed to the appropriate department. To work at clinical, education and domiciliary sites across Halton and St Helens as required. Prepare and ensure all consulting rooms are ready for use prior to the commencement of specific clinics including cleaning rooms as per hospital policy and that all necessary documentation is available for use by the clinician. CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Arrange, co-ordinate and conduct toilet training, bladder scanning and Urinalysis for children and young people. To support the continence team and children with Nocturnal Enuresis when they are using Alarm treatment. Document observations and results of clinical interventions, discuss with clinicians as/where necessary. Participate in teaching events and workshops in schools, or with other healthcare providers (e.g., 0-19). Support other staff and outside agencies with issues involving individual children in their care who having continence issues. Work within other settings for example, special schools, children centres, nurseries, homes etc Arrange and undertake continence product assessments with the support of the nursing staff. Develop resources for continence support for children. Ensure that nursing care provided is appropriate and is consistent with clinical guidelines. Receiving patients and relatives into clinic, checking patients identity details, completing the Paediatric pro-forma. Providing direct technical assistance to the Medical/Nursing staff as and when required. To ensure confidentiality of patient information at all times. To support trained nursing staff within the department in the delivery of patient care. To ensure the privacy and dignity of patients is paramount and not compromised. To communicate effectively with staff and patients to ensure that the highest possible standard of care is provided to patients. To be caring and competent and to ensure patient safety and well-being is paramount at all times. ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES Ensure patient records are kept up to date and accurate and recording is done in line with Trust policies and procedures. TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES To support other colleagues and students within the clinics as appropriate Support the training and education of parents/carers, care staff, and educational staff in the use of continence containment products and facilitating good practice for toilet training. RESEARCH & AUDIT To commence and participate in research/special projects as directed by the Department manager.
