We are looking for Early Years Play Workers who has a Level 3 in Early Years or Childcare. To fill vacant hours at this dynamic, forward looking, recently received Outstanding by Ofsted pre school group for children with additional needs. Come and join this friendly and experienced team who have specialist skills and experience in working with this challenging but rewarding group of children.
Job Purpose:
The Dorchester Opportunity Group is a specialist preschool provision for children with special educational or additional needs. We work with mainstream providers and other professionals to enable the child to meet his/her full potential in the community. You will be a member of a team providing a high quality, safe, secure and stimulating play and learning environment for the children attending the group.
Duties and responsibilities:
Be aware of and implement our Safeguarding Children Policy
Be aware of and respect the need for confidentiality relating children, their families and the organisation
Carry out planned activities under the guidance, direction and supervision of the Opportunity Group manager, deputy manager or senior play leader
Contribute to the planning and delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage and children’s individual plans
Use strategies to support alternative methods of communication such as Signalong, PEC’s and PEIC’D
Be part of a key working team
Undertake statutory training and training that might be specific to the individual needs of a child
Keep and maintain up to date records on observations of the children as directed by the Opportunity Group manager, deputy, or senior play leader
Share responsibility for the care, presentation, display, safety, organisation and appearance of the facilities and equipment
Work positively, sensitively and calmly with the children who may present with challenging behaviour.
The role will involve the intimate care of children (e.g. changing nappies, toileting, potty training, assisting with their medical needs such as PEG feeding or physiotherapy plans )
Show an understanding that a child’s personal, social, emotional, and moral development are key in the development of lifelong learning
Be committed to the principles of equality of opportunity for the children and their families
To promote a child and family friendly environment for all users
Adhere to staff guidelines and the Code of Conduct which will be discussed as part of the induction process
Communicate effectively with all parents/carers and other professionals
Read, discuss, understand and implement all Opportunity Group policies and procedures, including those referring to behaviour, apparel, mobile phones etc. Be aware of the dangers of wearing inappropriate clothing and jewellery both for yourself and the children. (Any related accidents could negate the staff insurance and leave them liable for damages in the event of a claim)
Ability to drive our mini-bus is desirable, but not required
Working environment
Some flexibility in working hours on occasions to meet needs of the group.
Most of the working day is spent standing, with periods of crouching/bending to engage children in activities.
There may be a need to physically lift or support children for safety or care reasons.
The Dorchester Opportunity Group is a non-profit making organisation and many activities including all fund raising displays, shows and other ‘one off’ events are carried out on a voluntary basis. Your support for these activities will be greatly appreciated, but it is not mandatory.
