We have an excellent opportunity to join our dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team, who are committed to providing the highest levels of care to critically ill patients.

As an Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) in ICU, you will support the clinical teams who deliver direct patient care. This includes, but is not limited to: assisting with hygiene needs, stock replenishment, ensuring medical equipment and the clinical area are clean and ready for use, supporting patient nutritional needs, and performing other appropriate duties as required by the clinical team.

Within ICU there is a 12-hour shifts (07:30–20:00 / 19:30–08:00). Successful candidates will be required to join a rota that includes both day and night shifts. Weekend and public holiday working is also required.

The ICU environment can be very busy, with multiple events occurring at the same time.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, remain calm under pressure, demonstrate empathy and compassion, and be hardworking and approachable.

Patients are often in ICU because of critical illness, and this can be an especially difficult time for their loved ones.

• Support the critical care nurse in the maintenance of personal hygiene for patients.
• Assist the bedside nurse in the prevention of pressure area damage through good care delivery.
• Raise alert if you discover an emergency situation and assist under direction.
• Maintaining and promoting patients privacy and dignity.
• Assist with general tidiness and presentation of ward/department environment.
• Support patients when transferring between departments.
• Ensure equipment/devices are cleaned where appropriate and kept on chare between patient usage and all equipment is handled accordingly to Trust/ward policy and procedures.
• Applicants must also have good written and verbal skills, a patient and caring attitude and be able to work as part of a team.
• Assist in undertaking activities of living in accordance with the care plan prescribed by qualified staff.
• These duties will include the delivery of hygiene care, nutrition and hydration, continence care, pressure area care, mobility and rehabilitation and offer psychological support.
