School Support Assistant
Liberton High School
Salary: £24,909 - £25,116 (pro-rata for part-time and sessional)
Hours: 27.5 per week, 39 weeks sessional
Liberton High School is a non-denominational secondary school with roll of approximately 900 pupils, working in partnership with our associated primaries of Craigour Park, Gilmerton, Liberton and Prestonfield to serve our local community in South East Edinburgh. We have a rising roll which is projected to peak at approximately 1100 within the next four years. We are excited to be moving into a new, purpose built Community Campus, which is due to be competed in February 2026.
The school's leadership team comprise the Head Teacher, three Depute Head Teachers, and a Business Manager. We have a complement of 65 teaching staff and 26 support staff.
We are looking to recruit a School support Assistant for a hybrid role where the main focus will be the provision of pupil welfare and medical support to our pupils. This will require the individual to support day to day medical requests, the administration of pupil welfare requirements and the management of medical records.
Alongside this you will also provide daily set up and preparation support to our HE faculty. This element of the role can be delivered at either the start or the end of the school day by agreement.
Pupil Welfare support is run from the main school office therefore the successful candidate will be based in the school office and be part of the team that delivers wider school support by assisting with administrative and reception tasks when available.
Due to the nature and importance of the Pupil Welfare element of the role it is essential that the successful applicant holds a current Full First Aid Certificate. This role may suit someone looking for flexibility in their working hours. This post is mainly a "pupil facing" role that requires the appointed person to be present through the majority of the school day. However, we are very happy to look at flexible start and finish times that meet your non work commitments.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.
As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we're bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.
To help achieve this, we're changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.
You can find out more on Our Behaviours web page https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/work-us/behaviours" target="_blank">Our Behaviours - The City of Edinburgh Council
