This opportunity is in the solution design and development arena for IT Manager who will play a major role with the technical design and development of the company’s technical offerings. The role is based at our Leicester office with occasional assignments at client locations.
Job Description (Main Duties and Responsibilities):
Oversee the daily operations of IT systems, including networks, servers, security, hardware, software, and support services.
Lead IT project planning and execution, including upgrades, migrations, integrations, and rollouts.
Manage IT budgets, vendor relationships, service level agreements (SLAs), and procurement processes.
Ensure network and data security, disaster recovery readiness, and compliance with data protection regulations.
Coordinate with stakeholders across departments to understand and support technology needs.
Supervise and mentor IT team members, conducting performance reviews and promoting professional development.
Develop and enforce IT policies, procedures, and documentation standards.
Monitor system performance, conduct risk assessments, and implement system improvements proactively.
Key Skills, Qualifications and Experience Needed [The candidate must demonstrate these in all stages of assessment]
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
6+ years of progressive IT experience, with at least 2 years in managerial or leadership role.
Strong understanding of ITIL, ISO 27001, and industry best practices.
The ideal candidate should possess deep expertise in managing enterprise IT infrastructure, including hands-on experience with Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022), Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP. Familiarity with Linux-based systems such as Ubuntu, CentOS, and Red Hat is also important for supporting a heterogeneous IT environment.
A strong background in virtualization technologies like VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V is essential, along with proficiency in endpoint management tools such as Microsoft Intune and System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).
The candidate should demonstrate a solid understanding of network design and administration, including LAN/WAN architecture, TCP/IP, VLANs, VPN configuration, and DNS/DHCP troubleshooting. Experience with enterprise-grade network hardware from vendors like Cisco, Fortinet, or Juniper, as well as performance monitoring tools such as PRTG or SolarWinds, is highly desirable.
In the area of cybersecurity, the candidate should be experienced in managing firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and endpoint protection platforms (e.g., CrowdStrike, Symantec, Sophos). Knowledge of SIEM tools such as Splunk or Microsoft Sentinel, as well as identity and access management (IAM) solutions with MFA and SSO, is critical. Familiarity with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS) and security frameworks like ISO 27001 is expected.
Cloud proficiency is essential, particularly with Microsoft 365, Azure Active Directory, and Azure IaaS/PaaS services. Experience in Google Workspace, Google Cloud Platform, and AWS (e.g., EC2, S3, IAM) is a plus. The candidate should be capable of leading cloud migration projects and managing hybrid IT environments effectively.
The role also requires experience in supporting and managing enterprise applications, including ERP, CRM, and HRIS platforms. The candidate should be skilled in software deployment, license management, patch management, and tracking software assets using appropriate tools.
Expertise in data backup and disaster recovery planning is critical, with familiarity in tools such as Veeam, Acronis, or Commvault, and a working knowledge of NAS/SAN storage solutions.
A solid grasp of IT operations and service management is needed, with experience using ITSM tools like ServiceNow, ManageEngine, or Freshservice. The candidate should be able to implement and oversee incident, change, and problem management processes, while effectively managing helpdesk performance and KPIs.
Basic to intermediate database administration skills are also valued, including work with Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL, covering tasks such as backup and restore, performance tuning, and writing simple queries.
The candidate should have experience with automation and scripting, particularly using PowerShell, Bash, or Python, for automating routine administrative tasks. Familiarity with workflow automation platforms such as Microsoft Power Automate or Zapier is an added advantage.
