Summary


The HBPoS provides a place of safety for those detained under S135 and S136 of the Mental Health Act. The service provides a safe place for those detained to be assessed by the HBPoS team, S12 approved doctors and AMHP. The post holder will provide care, support and assessments of all clients who enter the HBPoS.

The HBPoS is a nursing led service which provides intensive support, treatment and care for up to 24 hours for people who are deemed to be experiencing a mental health crisis.

We aim to maintain excellent interpersonal relationships with both internal and external parties to ensure we provide comprehensive and holistic care to our service users in the short amount of time we have.

· To provide holistic nursing care to clients including physical assessments, risk assessments, mental state assessments, intensive interventions to highly distressed individuals and complete relevant assessment tools.

· To contact S12 doctor and provide accurate and comprehensive handover of clients’ attendance and presentation within 1 hour of clients’ arrival.

· To contact AMHP and provide a handover of presentation and complete necessary documentation to facilitate assessment.

· To gather collateral information on clients from both internal and external resources.

· Appropriately manage highly emotional, abusive or threatening clients and defuse such situations when appropriate, often under difficult and hostile circumstances.

· Support with quality improvement in the service

· To work under the supervision of a registered nurse. To maintain timely and accurate patient written / electronic records under supervision and in line with Trust and service line policy and procedure.
