Summary
Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Care Worker to provide high-quality support to a frail elderly person in their own home. The client requires 3 calls daily at 0800-0845; 1200-1230; 1800-1830. The client has poor mobility, uses a zimmer frame, needs assistant to get out of bed, has a catheter in situ but is otherwise continent, needs supervision to mobilise and help with personal care such as showering and dressing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patient care, with experience in areas such as catheter care and moving and handling. This role is essential in ensuring the comfort, safety, and well-being of our client in their own home.
DUTIES
Morning Routine (0800-0845):
1. Remove and rinse night bag: Disconnect the night bag from the leg bag, empty and rinse the night bag, and store it for later use.
2. Assist client to a sitting position: Help the client transition from lying to a sitting position on the bed's edge, supporting their balance.
3. Supervise bathroom/wet room walk: Guide the client to the bathroom/wet room using a zimmer frame, ensuring their safety.
4. Assist with showering: Provide assistance with showering, ensuring the client's dignity and safety.
5. Assist with dressing: Help the client with dressing, ensuring they are comfortable and dressed appropriately.
6. Supervise living area walk: Assist the client to walk to their living area using a zimmer frame, maintaining their safety and mobility.
Daytime Routine (1200-1230):
1. Empty catheter leg bag at lunchtime: Empty the leg bag recording urine output.
2. Assist with garden walk: Encourage a short walk around the garden for mobilisation.
Evening Routine (1800-1830):
1. Assist into bed: Help the client put on pyjamas and get into bed for the evening.
2. Attach night bag: Connect the night bag to the leg bag, ensuring the tubing is properly secured.
Weekly Routine:
Change leg and night bags: Replace both the leg bag and night bag once weekly, following appropriate hygiene protocols.
REQUIREMENTS
>Previous experience in a care role is preferred but training can be provided; knowledge of manual handling and catheter care are advantageous.
>Being reliable and on time are essential.
>Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.
>Having a valid driving licence and car is preferred but not essential.
>Commitment to providing high-quality patient care with empathy and respect for client privacy.
>Flexibility to work varied shifts as needed, including evenings and weekends.
