Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated, innovative core trainee locum doctor to provide high quality, effective, comprehensive, culturally-sensitive mental healthcare and physical healthcare to patients on our general adult male and female acute wards. The Newham Centre for Mental Health is a modern PFI build hospital, opened in July 2002 and has 112 beds. The site also houses Newhams Home Treatment Team in addition to the Coburn Centre for Adolescent Mental Health which provides inpatient adolescent beds for the whole Trust. The inpatient service differs to those in other parts of the Trust as it operates two triage wards, to which the majority of service requiring inpatient psychiatric care are initially admitted. Patients are usually only transferred to one of the acute sector wards when a longer admission is required. There are 7 wards at the Newham Centre for Mental Health: Ivory Triage Ward: 15 bed female ward. Ruby Triage Ward: 15 bed male ward. Crystal PICU Ward: 12 bed psychiatric intensive care ward. Topaz Ward: 17 bed male acute ward for patients from north Newham. Emerald Ward: 18 bed female acute ward for patients from north Newham. Opal Ward: 19 bed male acute ward for patients from south Newham. Sapphire Ward: 16 female acute ward for patients from south Newham. Each acute ward was has a multi disciplinary team including Consultant Psychiatrists, specialist nursing team, pharmacists, social therapists, occupational therapists and peer support workers. The multi-disciplinary team works closely with families and carers who are regularly involved during an inpatient episode of care. The post-holder will always work under the supervision of a consultant psychiatrist and will be integral to a multidisciplinary team, accessing local CPD activities as appropriate. The post is an opportunity to work alongside a varied and experienced multidisciplinary team to provide holistic and person-centred care to people with dementia and their families. Candidates who have already completed all or part of their core training in psychiatry are also welcome to apply.
