Role & Responsibilities

As a Specialist Mentor, you will provide invaluable one-on-one support to university students based in University of West London facing mental health challenges or disabilities. You'll empower them to build essential organizational skills, manage stress effectively, and cultivate confidence as independent learners. Your work will blend in-person and online interactions, allowing you to tailor your approach to each student's unique needs and learning style. This rewarding role offers flexible hours and a hybrid work model, promoting a healthy work-life balance.

Main tasks include
  • Provide individualized support to students, addressing their mental health needs and academic challenges.
  • Develop and implement personalized support plans tailored to each student's unique circumstances.
  • Collaborate with university staff and other support services to ensure holistic student care.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student progress and support provided.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of student support services.
  • Facilitate workshops and group sessions on relevant mental health topics.
  • Adhere to the DfE's qualification framework for DSA-funded students.

Requirements

  • Membership of a relevant professional body (BACP, BPS, HCPC, NCPS, NMC, SWE, SCW, UMHAN, or COSCA).
  • 6 National Autistic Society Modules (non medical helper package)
  • Proven experience supporting students with mental health needs or disabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Experience with online support platforms and technologies.
  • A passion for helping students succeed.
  • Flexibility to work both on campus and remotely.
  • NAS Certified (or willingness to obtain certification).
