Summary

We are currently recruiting for Statistical Officer based Belfast ( Stranmills ). The successful candidates will be required to start once the vetting paperwork and ANI completed.
Start date: ASAP
Rate of pay: £12.59
Duration: 6 months with possibility of extension
Hours of work: Full time 37 Hours per week

Key Responsibilities:
This post supports the production and publication of a range of official statistics covering life events data (births, deaths, marriages, civil partnerships and adoptions) using data collected by the General Register Office (GRO). Duties will include:



  • Assisting with the production of branch publications


  • Preparing answers for Freedom of Information requests, assembly questions and ad hoc requests.


  • Assisting with quality assurance and validation of raw data


  • Performing quality assurance checks on branch outputs


  • Contributing to the upkeep of the Vital Statistics area of the clients website


  • Attending business and branch meetings.



Essential Criteria applicants must have:


  • Degree level qualification that includes at least one module in statistics and/or research methods.


  • Experience of managing/analysing large datasets


  • Experience with using SQL syntax to interrogate and produce analysis of large datasets for the production of reports and tables


  • Excellent oral and written communication skills


  • Good data analysis/presentation and IT skills with the ability to work with a variety of software packages - Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).


Desired Experience


  • Experience of using R, or other similar open-source software, to analyse large datasets and produce finished tables and reports.


  • Experience of Inkscape, or similar graphics package, for producing graphics and illustrations


  • Knowledge of accessibility requirements relating to public body publications


  • Knowledge of UK official statistics code of practice, as set out by the Office for Statistics Regulation, and the standards and processes to be observed when producing such outputs.
