£33,366 - £37,035

36.25 hours per week

Job type: 15-month Fixed Term Contract

Location: Primarily at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters

146 Bolton Road, Swinton, Manchester, M27 8US with occasional travel to GMCA Tootal Building, 56 Oxford St, Manchester M1 6EU.


Introduction

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Computer Aided Design (CAD) technician to join the GMCA Digital Services team who support Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS). GMFRS is one of the largest Fire and Rescue Services in the UK with over 2,000 employees and 41 fire stations.

The post will involve CAD plan preparation including scanning, rescaling, redrawing, printing and data management to support Fire Service requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Working as a part of the Systems Team you will:

  • Prepare CAD plans, that identify key information and hazards, to national Fire Service standards to support GMFRS Prevention and Protection and GMFRS Service Delivery requirements.
  • Support GMFRS’s operational requirements for CAD plans through use of the Operational Intelligence System (OIS), used on the Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs) by operational colleagues.
  • Create CAD plans that capture and display multiple layers of complex information in an easy-to-understand format e.g. large sites hospitals, tank farms, chemical sites.


Who we’re looking for

We are looking for a candidate that has:

  • Experience in the use of CAD systems, particularly AutoCAD and associated drafting techniques to efficiently produce plans to a high quality.
  • An ability to read, understand and rescale architectural plans.
  • Experience in printing and using large format scanners to produce images for use within CAD systems.
  • Experience in handling both printed and electronic plans.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following abilities:

  • Result and detail focused.
  • Able to work under pressure and well organised.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • IT literate
  • Good communication skills.
