A vacancy has arisen for an Advanced HCA to join the Sexual Health and Contraception Team. Working at Barking Hospital, and at sites within Barking, Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge, the successful applicant will be supported to become confident and competent in seeing patients independently for testing for sexually transmitted infections and advice. You will be working as part of a friendly and welcoming team to provide support to clinicians and patients; carrying out both clinical and administrative duties. All interviews will be held face to face.









• To provide assistance for medical staff and Registered Nurses including chaperoning duties in line with the Trust’sChaperone Policy
• In some settings the post holder will work unsupervised under strict protocol for example to develop skills and knowledge of basic condom demonstration, to be able to signpost clients to appropriate services, provide basic health sexual health advice / promotion to patients, to guide patients when undertaking swabs, to process urine samples, carry out physiological measurements for patients i.e. Blood Pressure,performing venepuncture, have the skills to be able to undertakemicroscopyand perform pregnancy testing. All skills will be subject to training and competency assessment.
• To input data timely and accurately onto the sexual health IT System
• To communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, their relatives and all members of the multi-disciplinary team in accordance with the Trusts standards on confidentiality
• To maintain Standards of Infection Control Principles/Practices and dispose of waste in accordance with the Trusts Infection Control Policy
• To move and handle patients in a manner which is safe for both the patient and the post holder in accordance with the Trusts Manual Handling Policy and the patients individual Risk Assessment

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 88,000 scans a year.
