About the role

Are you ready to lead the delivery of a major infrastructure project that powers the future? Join Balfour Beatty's Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team as a Project Manager – Cabling on the EGL2 project in Hull.

The Opportunity

As a key member of the team, you'll be responsible for the safe, sustainable, and successful delivery of our cabling works from planning through to closeout. This includes full project lifecycle management – design, delivery, monitoring, commissioning and handover.

You’ll provide strong leadership to drive team performance and ensure the project is delivered on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards. Working closely with clients and stakeholders, you’ll create a collaborative environment where multidisciplinary teams thrive.

What you'll be doing

Hold periodic project reviews and update the Digital Briefcase
• Ensure the team maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries
etc.)
• Prepare and present both internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders

Aptitude and ability to understand technical answers / explanations
• Management of teams to ensure works are deliverable
• Ability to interrogate designs and challenge inputs and deliverables
• Ensure reports provide relevant information to enable decisions to be made
which are informed, cost effective and in line with overall business strategy

Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm & keep up to date with changes in
legislation
• Accountable for the safety and welfare of the general public, employees and
supply chain
• Carry out Safety & Environmental Tours/promote observation and safety
initiatives
• Lead Accident/Incident Investigations
• Monitor effectiveness of the H&S Management System and implement
improvement actions
• Review RAMS and accepting subcontractor RAMS
• Develop H&S plan and ensure it is treated as a live document
• Ensure sufficiency and competency of workforce

Management and empowerment to allow teams to set people to work
• Upskilling and mentoring of others
• Coordinate and manage all project activities and internal functions
• Identify and control resource to deliver works
• Develop, implement and update resource allocations plans and raise
appropriate requests

  • Produce plans for the team to achieve goals/aspirations
  • Develop high performing teams, promote a pipeline of talent and assist with
    internal training through supporting, guiding, motivating and empowering the
    team. Using the resources available through training, mentoring and
    performance management
  • Lead risk/opportunity reviews, ownership of the Risk Register and recommend/implement changes
  • Log and escalate any issues that cannot be resolved at delegated level of authority
  • Manage subcontractors, including monitoring of contractor attendance and progress, providing direct instruction and support as necessary, such that contractual arrangements are achieved
  • Ensure procurement plans are available in line with the overall project plans, such that material/resources/supply chain can be delivered to meet scheduled deadlines
  • Develop, implement, review and periodically update resource loaded schedules
  • Ensure team adopt productivity and project controls techniques
  • Monitor progress and implement Short Interval Control processes/hold weekly meeting
  • Ensure production of operational milestones reflect master schedule and customer expectations
  • Establish robust change control process
  • Ensure that expenditure is in line with the budget and that resources are utilised efficiently to ensure cost control
  • Able to identify elements for cost recovery from others
  • Incorporate and balance both operational and commercial constraints into decision making
  • Lead effective reporting routines including escalation as required
  • Ownership and accountability of Budget
  • Understanding of the contract and ability to deliver the works
  • Manage commercial impact
  • Accountable for commercial change
  • Coordination and approval of plant and material order

Who we're looking for

The following qualities/experience are essential:

  • Experience of working on a variety of project types
  • Able to demonstrate a track record of project delivery
  • In depth understanding and practical experience of standard forms of contracts
  • Proficient in commercial/project management communications
  • Experience in implementing safe systems of work
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbal and written with all levels of the
    organisation
  • Communicate new concepts and ideas to technical and non-technical
    stakeholders
  • Effective team management skills which empower, influence & inspire others
    to build effective teams. Providing mentoring and support to members of the
    team where required
  • Good knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics
  • Record of a solution-based approach to problem solving
  • Ability to see the business vision and inspire this shared vision amongst the team
  • Discuss ideas and plans competently and with confidence
  • Sponsor and promote project diversity and inclusion
  • Recognise and drive personal development with a learning mindset
  • Member of a professional management body i.e. APM
  • Proficient on O365
  • Holds a current driving licence

The role holder is likely to have one or more of the following:

  • Formal qualification in project management or equivalent experience
  • CSCS and SMSTS or Equivalent
