IS Procurement Category Manager


Newcastle upon Tyne, hybrid working with minimum 2 days per week in our city centre head office


Permanent, full time (37.5 hpw)


Salary circa £55,000 based on skills and experience, benefits include defined contribution pension scheme and Health Cash Plan

We’re looking for a Procurement Category Manager to join our Procurement team, with an exclusive focus on IT and digital. You’ll help shape how we work with our IS colleagues and suppliers, making sure we’re ready for what’s next in tech while keeping things smart, simple and good value.

What you’ll do


  • Deliver best in class procurement for IT and digital, shaping smart strategies and running compliant tenders

  • Work closely with the IS team and their supplier relationship managers to bring value, performance and innovation from key contracts

  • Use your insight to influence big decisions and keep us ahead of changing regulations

  • Lead sourcing for high value and complex IT spend, driving commercial results that make a difference

  • Contribute your ideas to projects and process improvements across the team

  • Support stakeholders with practical advice that balances quality, risk and value

What you bring


  • Hands on experience in public sector IT procurement with a knack for running smart and compliant tenders

  • Strong knowledge of public procurement legislation and contract law

  • A confident and commercial mindset with great influencing and negotiation skills

  • A natural relationship builder, especially with technical stakeholders

  • Curious, proactive and excited by new ideas and better ways of working

  • An ITIL or Project Management qualification or equivalent

  • Confidence using e-procurement tools and keeping up with changing rules

Job details


  • Working hybrid with a minimum of 2 days in the office per week.

  • We anticipate this is a full time role but may be open to agreeing a work pattern with you, please let us know at interview what you are looking for.

  • You’ll manage your own diary, so if you need to take a longer lunch for a haircut, you can use your flexi time to manage that!

  • Able to use technology for communicating with colleagues and external partners, the supplier lifecycle management system and excel for analysis purposes.
