Summary


The job plan will be agreed with the suitable candidate. The successful individual will be expected to work together as part of a team with our other SAS and rotational SpR doctors. Support and supervision of more junior doctors particularly FY1s on CCU/Elizabeth ward is expected and cover of our in-patient team is expected at all times by SAS/SpR team.

There will be an opportunity to gain specialist experience in cardiac catheterisation and echocardiography. There will be on average one session per week in each. There will be 2-3 outpatient clinics per week on average. The team will be expected to work on a rotational basis to share training opportunities. There will be an expectation that the successful candidate works towards BSE accreditation. Teaching of our undergraduates and participation in our department teaching program is expected. Contributing to audit is a training requirement.

· In-patient care on dedicated cardiac ward (18 beds, including 8 monitored CCU beds)

· In-patient cardiology consultation to other specialities

· Outpatient (OPD) general cardiology clinics

· Nurse lead open access Rapid Access Clinic for assessment of recent onset suspected IHD

· Arrhythmia OPD service including cardioversion

· Hospital and community based Nurse Led heart failure service

· Pacemaker Follow up clinic

· Cardiac Rehabilitation service

· Non-invasive functional assessment of IHD: Myocardial Perfusion Scanning, Exercise Testing

· Invasive diagnostic assessment of cardiac disease: Catheter lab based assessment of IHD, valvular disease and cardiomyopathy

· Treatment of brady arrhythmia: Catheter lab permanent pacing service, implantable loop recorder implant/follow up and box change

All elective revascularisation peer reviewed

· Alternate week meeting, attended cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeon,

Junior Drs, nursing staff and rehab staff when available.

Physiological Testing

· Echocardiogram

· Holters

· Exercise Test

· 24 hour BP

· Technician led service with remote supervision by Consultants.

· There are daily sessions in the above physiological tests with pre-planned appointments made by cardiology department administration. The Investigations are undertaken on the Byron Cardiology Unit. The service is pre-dominantly an Out Patient service but there is some in-patient activity particularly an in-patient echo service.

· An open access service to GPs in Waltham Forest is in place for Echo, 24 hour holters and 24 hour Bp monitoring.

· Physiologists from Barts undertake extra analysing sessions at Whipps Cross, predominantly on weekends to keep up with demand. Investment into a new analysing station has recently increased capacity to analyse 24 hour holters. 2 analysing stations are now based at Whipps Cross Hospital.

· Myocardial Perfusion Scans:

· Managed by nuclear medicine.

· Currently Dr Taneja and Dr Sin working towards accreditation to become

Independent reporters.
