Summary

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an on-site Painter & Decorator in HMP Morton Hall.

This role offers flexibility with a 39-hour week across 7 days, including a 1-in-3 weekend shift pattern — plus a 15% shift allowance on your basic salary. You may also be part of an on-call rota, with a generous standby allowance and optional overtime is available to help you boost your earnings.

Prefer more of a work-life balance? We also offer a Monday to Friday only shift.

At HMP Morton Hall, the site offers a unique working environment that balances structure with openness. With a strong focus on safety, rehabilitation, and community, Morton Hall provides a professional yet approachable setting for staff. The site is also performance-recognised by the establishment, reflecting the high standards and dedication of the team working there.

This isn’t your typical prison environment — the site features open areas and a more spacious layout, with just five accommodation blocks to maintain, making it a more manageable and less confined setting.

The Painter/Decorator plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.

The team of 20 is supportive and diverse with excellent work ethic. Typically the work is completed independently alongside one other on-site Electrician, with the option to buddy up for health and safety when needed.

What you will do:

Planned and reactive paint work in all areas of the prison.
Responsibility for the care and maintenance of tools, materials and additional company property.
Compliance with relevant company Health & Safety Policy, instructions and directive.
This role will also support both local and business zero carbon programmes, working towards zero carbon in a strategic and lean manner as and where it is appropriate.
Responsible for ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.

What you will bring:

Qualified to NVQ 2 or 3 in Painting & Decorating
Previous relevant work related experience.
Good awareness and understanding of personal health and safety, method statements and risk assessments.
Comfortable working alongside prisoners.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of candidates.

Prison Security Clearance will be required (Amey will support you through this process).
