To undertake care and management of patients within St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, under the guidance of qualified physiotherapists and to carry out duties supporting the smooth functioning of the service. These include but are not limited to:
• Assisting the therapists and supporting the therapy service by carrying out delegated duties.
• Treating own designated workload of patients and maintaining associated patient records utilising knowledge and skills gained through experience and/ or relevant qualifications.
• Ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff to carry out physical activity.
• Assisting in maintaining services and contributing to the development of services.
The post provides physiotherapy support to patients across acute respiratory and surgical wards. The post holder assists the physiotherapists by carrying out delegated duties and treats their own designated workload of patients utilising knowledge and skills gained through experience and/ or relevant qualifications.
The post holder is key to ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff to carry out physical activity and assists in maintaining services and contributing to the development of services. By providing rehabilitation and progressing patients to reach functional independence, the post supports timely discharge and patient flow and is integral to the provision of 7-day inpatient rehabilitation services.
The post also supports the wider physiotherapy department through stock taking and co-ordinating equipment ordering for the whole department to access.

St George's Hospital is a major acute hospital that offers very specialist care for complex injuries and illnesses, including trauma, neurology, cardiac care, renal transplantation, cancer care and stroke. It has a helipad which opened in spring 2014 and the work of its emergency department can currently be seen on Channel 4’s ‘24 Hours in A&E’ programme. The hospital also provides all the usual care you would expect from a local NHS district general hospital.
As well as hospital services, we provide a wide variety of specialist, maternity and community services to children, adults, older people and people with learning disabilities. These services are provided from St John’s Therapy Centre, 11 health centres and clinics, schools, nursing homes and people’s own homes.
