About us

United Response is a national charity supporting people with learning disabilities, mental health needs and physical disabilities. Our vision is a society where everyone has equal access to the same rights and opportunities.

Subject: Join Our Team as a SENCO at ROC College

Are you passionate about inclusive education and ready to lead meaningful change for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities?

Would you like to use your experience and expertise to improve outcomes for learners, while working in a flexible and supportive environment?

If so, we’d love to hear from you.

United Response is looking for an experienced and motivated Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join our team at ROC College. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping and delivering high-quality education for learners with SEND across Cornwall, Devon, Plymouth and Torbay.

About the role

As SENCO, you will lead and manage the provision for learners with SEND across all ROC College sites. Your role will involve:

  • Ensuring full compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and other statutory requirements
  • Supporting staff to deliver inclusive, high-quality teaching and learning
  • Coordinating the Education, Health and Care Plan process and statutory reviews
  • Using data and evidence to identify needs and track learner progress
  • Working closely with external agencies, families and local authorities to achieve the best outcomes for our learners
  • Promoting a culture of high expectations, collaboration and continuous improvement

This is a non-teaching role with a focus on leadership, planning and support. You will work closely with the Head Teacher and wider team to embed inclusive practices across the college.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for someone with:

  • Qualified SENCO
  • A strong understanding of SEND legislation and EHCP processes
  • Experience of supporting learners with a range of needs, including those with learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • A proactive, organised and collaborative approach
  • Confidence in using data and digital systems to support planning and reporting
  • A full driving licence and willingness to travel between sites when needed

It would be an advantage if you have worked in post-16 or specialist education settings, are familiar with Databridge or similar systems, or have experience delivering staff training.

What we offer

At United Response, we want every team member to feel supported and valued. As part of the ROC College team, you’ll have access to:

  • Flexible working arrangements where appropriate
  • Comprehensive training and continuing professional development
  • Occupational health and wellbeing support
  • Pension scheme and life assurance
  • Retail discounts through the Blue Light Card
  • Cycle to work and travel to work schemes
  • A friendly, collaborative working environment
  • Opportunities for career progression

United Response is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All staff are expected to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
