Summary
Do you want to work for an organisation that values difference and includes everyone? Can you work with colleagues across different teams to help shape and build a diverse, skilled, and resilient workforce for now and the future? Would you like to help manage an industry-leading graduate training scheme?
As an Early Careers and Skills Officer, you will play an essential role in supporting the management and day to day delivery of our Environment and Science Graduate Training Scheme. A key responsibility is to build and maintain effective connections and communications across the community of graduates, their line managers and mentors In this 15-month assignment you will be part of a small, dedicated team at the Environment Agency that recruits and supports the development of 85 graduates at different stages on the scheme. The office location for this role is our Environment Agency office in Nottingham. A hybrid working pattern will be organised to suit the successful candidate. You can expect to be in the office for 5-8 days a month, combined with working from home. All employees are provided with the equipment needed to work safely and effectively from home. The role will require occasional travel to other Environment Agency sites across England, including overnight stays 1-2 times per month. You will support and help to run graduate network meetings, provide learning and development advice, and be central to building greater mentoring and coaching capacity in the Environment Agency.
This role provides a great stepping stone, with opportunities to progress in the future. If you need to work part-time rather than full time, please contact us before applying.
We encourage all our staff to spend time on their development and you will have access to a wide range of learning and development opportunities through our Learning Zone.
The team
You will be part of a proactive, supportive, and friendly national team, dedicated to building talent in our workforce. Positioned within the Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Directorate, we maintain and enhance the skills of colleagues across our early careers programme in both FCRM and other departments. The team supports wider workforce planning and skills activity in the Environment Agency, with exposure to a wide range of business support and delivery functions.
Experience/skills required
You will have a passion for the learning and development of others, helping young people develop their careers. You will be a supportive team player, be delivery-orientated, and apt at driving tasks forward to meet deadlines.
Essential:
• The ability to work both independently, using your own initiative, and as part of a team to achieve planned outcomes.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), with effective interpersonal and people skills.
