Summary

We recognise the challenges that people with protected characteristics may experience on the job market and in their career progression. We are fully committed to being an inclusive employer and ensuring equal opportunities. We are keen to make our workforce as diverse as possible, and we hope to attract applications from underrepresented groups, including ethnic minorities, people with a disability, and people with gender diverse identities.

Can you lead complex programmes and collaborate across organisations to deliver major infrastructure projects?

Would you thrive in a strategic role shaping transport and regeneration at Euston?

Are you a motivated leader with strong communication and stakeholder skills?

If so, then we would love for you to apply!

Euston is a critical part of realising the benefits for the whole HS2 programme, and offers the largest regeneration opportunity in central London, including new quality housing in the local area and a thriving hub of education, medical, life sciences, and creative industries.

This is an exciting time to join us. We are leading on the delivery of the Euston Programme, which consists of four major, complex projects: a new HS2 station, redevelopment of the existing Euston Conventional Station (RECS), significant upgrades to local transport—particularly the London Underground, along with a significant level of development.

Your role will be based in the Euston - Strategy and Programme Division. We lead on all the cross-cutting work to support and drive delivery as we enter an important and exciting phase.

This role has a strong leadership component and will involve working collaboratively across DfT, organisational boundaries and with our delivery partners (HS2 Ltd, Network Rail and Lendlease) to ensure that the programme is executed to deliver the Government’s vision for Euston. The postholder will oversee the work of The Euston Partnership (TEP), a joint venture between DfT, NR and HS2 set up to integrate delivery of transport infrastructure and development across Euston.

We are a highly supportive team and you will be encouraged to develop expertise through on-the-job training, and structured learning and development opportunities.

Great line management is important to us as an organisation, and we will equip and support line managers to develop the skills set out in the Civil Service Line Management Standards. We aim to empower line managers to create teams where people can flourish and deliver excellent outcomes for the public.

Responsibilities

Key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Leading our strategy and approach for the Euston Programme, working across the Euston Directorate, DfT, cross-Whitehall and with delivery partners to ensure it meets the needs of Ministers and senior officials.
  • Leading on the planning, co-ordination and implementation of our governance and assurance to ensure that both support the successful execution of the Euston Programme.
  • Overseeing sponsorship of The Euston Partnership (including regular travel to their office in London) and providing support in specific areas as needed.
  • Overseeing implementation of Euston Directorate communications and stakeholder engagement and providing support in specific areas where needed.
  • Overseeing management of cross-directorate functions, including our finance, analytical programme, contract management and implementation of the Euston Directorate programme management function. Please note that there is a mandatory requirement for the successful candidate to be accredited in Contract Management or be willing to work towards this.
  • Line management, as well as task management of other Euston Directorate team members as needed.
