The role:
A skilled Vehicle & Plant Technician is required to work mainly on Plant vehicles and machinery from ride on mowers to JCB loaders also including trailer repairs.
A sound knowledge of working on different types of agricultural vehicles and machinery is essential for this role
This can lead to a full time job if you prove to be suitable in the 13 week temporary period.
Please note that shift working applies to this role on a weekly basis:
06:30-14:30 Mon-Thurs 06:30-14:00 Friday
08:00-16:00 Mon-Thurs 08:00-15:30 Friday
Key responsibilities:
Comprehensive Maintenance, Repair, and Diagnostic Work:
Perform repairs, fault finding, preventative maintenance, and safety inspections on a wide range of vehicles and machinery, including specialist vehicles, covering mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and bodywork systems. This includes welding, fabrication, MOT testing, roadside repairs, and use of diagnostic technology, ensuring all work meets manufacturer specifications and legal safety standards.
Supervision, Administration, Compliance, and Customer Service:
Manage and mentor apprentices and technicians, maintain accurate documentation and vehicle records, ensure compliance with legislation and council policies, coordinate vehicle movements and recovery, liaise with suppliers and customers, and uphold a customer-focused and resource-efficient approach to all tasks.
What the client is looking for:
A minimum of 2 years post qualification experience in vehicle or plant maintenance in a multidisciplinary workshop environment
Experience of Supervising, motivating and controlling employees within the post holders remit
Hold a relevant qualification in Plant Motor Vehicle Technology equivalent to NVQ level 2/3
Hold a VOSA recognised Certificate for Large Goods Vehicle Safety/Roadworthiness Inspections
A thorough knowledge of M.O.T. Testing, standards and procedures and be a qualified MOT inspector or actively in training as an MOT Inspector
Ability to communicate in a competent and professional manner with, internal and external clients
A technical knowledge of vehicle/plant and equipment design and specifications
Basic IT skills that can be developed and the ability to use pre-designed programmes on computing and associated equipment as a tool in the provision of the Vehicle and Plant Maintenance Service and the management of the Workshops
A thorough working knowledge of all Health & Safety Legislation and City Council Policy, and to ensure adherence to a safe working environment and safe working practices
Must have an LGV category C Driving Licence and ideally category C+E Driving Licence
