Summary
Professional: Assess problems presented by patients and deal with them in a safe, holistic and professional manner. Provide continuing up to date safe care to patients across the practice population. Collect specimens Including phlebotomy samples. Initiate laboratory tests, as required. Review results and act upon them accordingly as required. Provide up to date wound care and leg wound management. Removal of clips/sutures and give appropriate post op advice. Cervical cytology Childhood immunisations using the National Guidelines ECG Give vaccinations following appropriate guidelines and PGDs Assist with minor surgery Give hormonal and other specialist injections according to guidelines and training. Recognise anaphylaxis and act accordingly Able to perform BLS Maintain infection control policies. Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times. Performing any other relevant duties that are required of the post id applicable. Managerial To work in close collaboration with the nursing team manager to ensure effective management of the department Assist Nursing Team Manager in development and training of staff Perform clinical audits as required, with support from Ops Management as needed Maintain accurate, timely and confidential records in accordance with the NMC Code Assist in ordering and cleanliness and maintenance of the department and the safe environment. Responsible for the maintenance of equipment and stock control: including refrigeration, vaccine ordering, single use equipment, general treatment room equipment and stock and emergency drugs and equipment. Manage and organise individual patient consultations. Work within competencies at all times Attend staff meetings, sometimes in place of Nursing Team Manager where required Contribute to the ongoing assessment of service needs. Setting an example to all other team members of high standards and safe practice. Supporting colleagues whenever required. Assist with reviewing rotas and best utilisation of appointments To deputise for the Nursing Team Manager as needed Educational: Identify personal development and training needs in conjunction with the GP/Nurse Manager and Practice Manager. Participate in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and continuing professional development. Participate in formal tutorials and informal training of student nurses and GP trainees in the practice. Participate fully in practice audit and quality development programmes. Management of Chronic disease: To develop knowledge base and progress in the management of Chronic Disease patients within the primary care setting. Diagnosis, monitoring and development of individual management plans, agreeing these as appropriate with the patients and other health professionals. Checking compliance with and adherence to appropriate treatments using a holistic patient cantered approach. Identifying the impact of treatment and implementing or recommending changes as appropriate. Support the practice in QOF Target attainment and audit. Research Projects: Co-operate and participate as required in any research projects within the practice. Health and Safety: The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health & Safety Policy, to include: Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines. Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks. Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards. Reporting potential risks identified.
