Summary


This post is an exciting opportunity for a post-CCT fellow or Consultant in Paediatric Neurology to work at centre of excellence. This is a fixed six month locum post in Paediatric Neurology at a tertiary level based on the Imperial College Healthcare Trust to cover sickness. Most of the clinical work will be on the St. Mary’s Hospital although Paediatric Neurology clinics are held at the Hammersmith Hospital by a colleague. In time the postholder may be asked to cover some of these clinics. The postholder will be required to maintain good working relationships with the Epilepsy CNSs and Acute Paediatric colleagues (including those who see secondary level patients). There is also close liaison with other hospitals including Chelsea & Westminster, Great Ormond Street and Evelina Children’s Hospitals. West London Children’s Healthcare are progressing an exciting Epilepsy Project which will improve the current patient pathways and ensure that patients receive the optimal holistic care. This is a wonderful opportunity to be part of those discussions.

The post will involve ‘attending’ and ‘non-attending weeks’ on a 2:4 weekly basis. Attending weeks will be devoted to providing daily wards and consults to the15 bedded PICU and Paediatric wards. There will be a requirement to cover neurology clinics and attend weekly MDTs with colleagues from neuroradiology and electrophysiology. These MDTs will also involve the Paediatric Neurology team at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. The department has a very collaborative approach to managing patients and close liaison with the Epilepsy CNSs is essential. The CNSs will attend clinics (independently and alongside the Paediatric Neurologists) as well as review patients on the wards and PICU. West London Children’s Hospital has an exciting Epilepsy Project with an ambitious work plan and there will be exciting opportunities for the postholder to be part of this work to ensure the patients and families received optimal care. The department also has very strong academic focus and there will be opportunities to be involved in research depending on the postholder’s interests

Job description has been provided but the roles of the post are as below:

The post-holder will share responsibility with the existing consultant staff to:

· Provide the highest possible standards of inpatient care in diagnosis and management of children with neurological disorders. This will include providing specialist input to the Paediatric A&E, inpatient wards, and 15 bedded PICU.

· Work closely with colleagues within Acute Paediatrics to ensure children are viewed in appropriate clinics e.g. first seizure clinics, tertiary neurology clinics.

· Conduct Neurology out-patient clinics.

· Work closely with the CNSs in post to deliver joint wards, clinics and support with external queries.

· Work with Paediatric Neurology colleagues cross-site to strengthen transition pathways for older patients to Adult Neurology.

· Attend MDTs in neuroradiology, EEGs and transition etc.

· Contribute to post-graduate education of junior doctors and support Senior Clinical Fellow currently in post.

· Actively contribute to clinical governance including audit.

· Support and carry out research in line with the departmental research strategy.

· Undertake specific management tasks and membership of hospital committees as proposed by the Lead Clinician and Directorate Policy Board.
