About this opportunity
In the Machine Learning as a Service lab, we design, build, and operate the bank's Machine Learning, Data Science, and Analytics platforms. Our work includes software engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, automation, and tooling.
We're a friendly group of people with a huge passion for all things Data and Artificial Intelligence. We come from diverse backgrounds, but we all share a vision of the untapped potential of human and machine intelligence.
We aim to make the bank of the future safer, faster, and more effective. We're realizing a future where machine intelligence alleviates repetitive manual effort and instead provides insight and direction to our colleagues, empowering them to achieve more with less effort.
What follows is what you might find yourself doing on an average day in our teams, but your experience will depend on the team's needs as well as your own aspirations. Our goal is to help you develop in a way that fulfils you and create an environment where you can do what you enjoy.
-
Practice scrum in a small engineering team within our Lab.
-
Automate software and infrastructure delivery with technologies like Terraform, Python, Jenkins, Harness, and Cloud Build.
-
Build and improve an ML cloud platform on GCP.
-
Gain exposure to native Google tooling including GKE, BigQuery, Vertex AI, Cloud Build, and more.
-
Build, test, and deploy customised Workbench Instances.
-
Build scalable software using Python.
-
Support Data Science teams to productionise their models on GCP.
-
Innovate by discovering new tools, methods, and approaches.
-
Use your knowledge and experience to help shape our overarching strategy.
-
Coach other engineers and steer the design of our software.

What you'll need
We believe that people don't fit neatly into roles, and we value everyone's individual skills, experience, and knowledge - it's what makes you amazing! So if you have a strong technical background, we'd like to hear from you.
Specifically we're looking for:
-
Technical knowledge of DevOps tooling, including continuous integration tooling pipelines and containerisation
-
Solid knowledge of the Google cloud platform with specific experience in integrating and deploying the Vertex AI components
-
Experience with GKE, BigQuery, Cloud Build and Harness
-
Demonstrable knowledge of terraform and Python
-
The ability to build strong relationships and demonstrate a passion for solving real-world problems with technology
About working for us
Our focus is to ensure we're inclusive every day, building an organisation that reflects modern society and celebrates diversity in all its forms. We're committed to creating a consciously inclusive workplace where our colleagues can be themselves, thrive and perform at their best.
We were one of the first major organisations to set goals on diversity in senior roles, create a menopause health package, and a dedicated Working with Cancer Initiative.
As an inclusive employer, we offer Workplace Adjustments for colleagues with a disability (which may include long-term health and neurodivergent conditions) where it is reasonable to do so. This could include flexibility with regards to office attendance, location, and working pattern.
We're proud to be a Disability Confident Leader. If you have a disability, you can also apply via our Disability Confident Scheme (DCS). Through the DCS, we guarantee to interview a fair and proportionate number of
applicants with a disability, whose application meets the minimum criteria for the advertised job role.
We also provide adjustments that are reasonable throughout the recruitment process to reduce or remove barriers for applicants with a disability, long-term health condition or neurodivergent condition. If you'd like an adjustment to the recruitment process just let us know.
We also offer a wide-ranging benefits package, which includes:
* A generous pension contribution of up to 15%
* An annual performance-related bonus
* Share schemes including free shares
* Benefits you can adapt to your lifestyle, such as discounted shopping
* 30 days' holiday, with bank holidays on top
* A range of wellbeing initiatives and generous parental leave policies
If you're excited by the thought of becoming part of our team, get in touch. We'd love to hear from you.
