Grade 5 (Level 3) (SCP 5-6)
(Fixed term to 31 August 2026 initially)
£24,7900 - £25,183 (pro rata)
32.5 hours per week (8.30-3.30), term time only.
The Governing Body of Caerleon Comprehensive School, a popular high-achieving school with a student role of 1500, are seeking to appoint a motivated, organised, and hard-working individual to the post of Teaching Assistant to work as part of our ALN team, supporting the needs of learners through delivering tailored interventions.
Our Additional Learning Provision is a strong feature of our school and we aim to support the needs of all learners through universal, targeted and specific provision. You will be based in the school, in a building which houses our newly-built STEP (Skills, Targeted support, Engagement & Progress) Centre, a space designed for intervention and ALN provision. You will be part of a supportive and collaborative team where you will benefit from ongoing professional development to help you grow in your role. The Literacy and Communication Coach will provide essential support for the STEP Centre Lead, the STEP Centre Co-ordinator and the Literacy Co-ordinator.
Your role as Teaching Assistant – Literacy and Communication Coach:
• Support the learning and development of pupils with Additional Learning Needs, adapting approaches to meet a wide range of individual needs
• Support small groups in delivering engaging and tailored literacy-based intervention programmes and provide support for learners with identified needs in lessons
• Liaise with a Grade 3 (Level 2) Teaching Assistant for Literacy and Communication support, delivering intervention and support through small group sessions, or through supporting learners in lessons
• Assist pupils with individual learning plans, helping them progress and achieve personalised outcomes
• Assess, organise and monitor the progress of intervention programmes
• Provide emotional and behavioural support to encourage confidence and independence
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with staff, parents and external agencies to ensure pupil progress, student wellbeing the best outcomes for every learner
• Help create a nurturing environment where pupils feel safe, valued, and empowered.
• Foster the independence, confidence and social inclusion of pupils both in the class and wider school life
• Contribute to learner outcomes, targets and reviews
• Develop resources and materials to deliver bespoke emotional, social and behavioural centred intervention
