The Department of Politics, International Relations and Philosophy at Royal Holloway seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Political Theory (teaching focused). The successful applicant would be expected to start in September 2025.
About the Department. The Department of Politics, International Relations and Philosophy is part of the School of Law and Social Sciences. The Department provides a full range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes to a diverse student body. We carry out research across different sub-disciplines across research centres, including but not limited to the Contemporary Political Theory Group, the Democracy and Elections Centre, the Global Politics and Development Centre, the Centre for International Security, the Centre for Islamic and West Asian Studies, the New Political Communication Unit and the Gender Institute.
About the role. This post is in part cover for an existing member of staff. The successful candidate will convene and deliver modules as part of the political theory curriculum. In particular, we are looking for someone to convene and teach on the Department of Politics, International Relations, and Philosophy’s undergraduate Classic and Contemporary Readings in Politics and International Relations (Introduction to Political Philosophy), Modern Political Thought, Contemporary Anglo-American Political Theory and Political Theories of Freedom modules. A good grasp of the history of political thought from the 17th Century and contemporary Anglo-American political theory will be useful for the design and delivery of these modules.
