Summary
To work as a clinical specialist providing written and verbal information to bereaved families. To support women and their families who are experiencing foetal loss and/or childbirth related difficulties.
To provide support to nursing, midwifery and medical staff within the directorate when caring for women experiencing a loss in pregnancy, stillbirth or early neonatal death.
To act as an educational resource for medical, nursing and midwifery staff on physical, psychological and administrative aspects of bereavement care. In addition, this role is to provide support and training for staff in bereavement related issues.
Contact and support bereaved parents during their initial grieving process. Accompany patients to appointments in the Trust relating to their loss, such as post mortem result discussion with their consultant.
Signposting bereaved families to further support services.
Developing staff knowledge to enable them to support bereaved families.

We provide a range of services including urgent and emergency care; medical; surgical; maternity; gynaecology; critical care; children’s and young people’s services; end of life care and outpatient and diagnostic imaging services.
We provide community health services, including sexual health services in Calderdale from Calderdale Royal and local health centres. These include Todmorden Health Centre and Broad Street Plaza.

Act as an effective advocate for the bereaved woman and her family, responding to their needs to ensure their care is of the highest possible standard.
Be an accessible resource and give practical help and support where appropriate, either by telephone or in person to staff of all levels, patients and their families.
To give emotional and psychological support to bereaved parents and the staff involved in their care. This may involve care in the antenatal period, during labour and the postnatal period.
Ensure access to services is initiated and maintained for those women needing support for an appropriate time period including home visits for those for whom entering the hospital environment causes considerable distress.
Where required, provide hands-on care in EPAU to women who have a diagnosed perinatal loss.
Counsel families regarding post-mortem and other investigations, and obtain consents for post mortem examinations when required.
Provide support and advice to staff and bereaved families within the division regarding registration of their babys' birth and death, making funeral arrangements, and ensuring that the relevant documentation is completed.
