Summary
The department provides a full range of adult cardiac services to a number of districts within the South Thames Region. The work of the Unit includes non-invasive and invasive cardiac investigations and treatment; acute coronary care; acute primary angioplasty for MI; interventional cardiology procedures including percutaneous coronary intervention, valvuloplasty, electrophysiological investigations and ablation therapy, defibrillator implants and permanent pacing; heart failure clinics/inpatient service, including cardio-oncology; an acute chest pain clinic; and cardiac rehabilitation. The cardiac rehabilitation department holds several quality awards including a Charter Mark. There are strong links at Kings with other associated tertiary specialties including Renal, Neurosciences, Liver and Thoracic Medicine Departments, Haematology, as well as the Vascular Surgeons. The department was a pilot site for the introduction of an electronic patient record system, direct booked admissions, and direct booked dates for diagnostics. All of these are now fully implemented within the speciality.
