Summary

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join our research team in the School of Engineering at Lancaster University on an exciting project to develop a point-of-care biosensor for c-peptide assessment.

The project is funded by Breakthrough T1D (USA) via a Strategic Research Agreement grant, awarded to Dr Samet Şahin in the School of Engineering at Lancaster University. This is a one year, full-time post commencing 1st December 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The interviews for this post will be held online.

The project aims to develop a blood test for c-peptide that can be performed at the time and place of patient care for the assessment of the pre-symptomatic period of type 1 diabetes. This will provide an easy and reliable c-peptide assessment with a significant reduction in time compared to conventional standards in clinical practice.

Role responsibilities:

As part of a friendly research team in Şahin Research Group (www.sametsahin.me), you will be responsible for:

  • Design and synthesis of redox nanocomposite materials and characterisation
  • Antibody immobilisation and characterisation
  • Electrochemical testing and immunosensor characterisation

Candidate requirements:

  • A degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Engineering, Chemistry, Nanotechnology or a related discipline.
  • A PhD (or near completion) in electroactive materials, nanomaterials, electrochemical sensor technologies or a similar area.
  • A publication record of research in a relevant area and the ability to collect, analyse and interpret experimental data, especially material synthesis and characterisation.
  • Great problem-solving and organisational skills
  • Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience in dealing with carbon-based nanomaterials and redox nanocomposites, protein immobilisation and electrode modifications for electrochemical sensing is also desirable.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to contact the project PI, Dr Samet Şahin (s.sahin@lancaster.ac.uk ) for further information about the position.
